UPDATE: Washington delegate count - Joe Biden widens lead over Bernie Sanders

Former Vice President Joe Biden has won 46 delegates to Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 43 in Washington, according to Associated Press delegate tracker numbers Saturday.

Six states voted March 10. Biden won Washington, Michigan, Missouri, Idaho and Mississippi primaries. Sanders, a senator from Vermont, won the North Dakota caucus. Biden topped Sanders in Washington 37.9% to 36.6% with 100% of the votes in.

Turnout in the Washington primary was 49.6%. “It will now go down in history as drawing the highest turnout ever for a Washington presidential primary,” said Secretary of State Kim Wyman, who certified the results Friday.

The turnout topped 2000’s 42.6%, when 1.3 million votes were cast. This year, 2.26 million votes were cast.

In other states voting on March 10, Biden won 72 delegates to Sanders’ 52 in Michigan. Biden took 44 Missouri delegates to Sanders’ 24.

Biden won 11 delegates in Idaho, while Sanders won 9.

In Mississippi, Biden had a 34 to 2 delegate win. In North Dakota, Sanders picked up 8 delegates while Biden claimed 6.

Washington state continues to count votes, and more numbers are expected to be released soon.

As of 2:19 P.M.PDT Wednesday, here’s how many pledged delegates AP is reporting for each candidate remaining in the race

Joe Biden: 1,201

Bernie Sanders: 896

The Washington ballot listed 13 Democratic candidates, but all but those three remain in the race. Votes for departed candidates were counted, and they could wind up receiving delegates.

Washington voters were deciding how to allot 89 pledged delegates.

Candidates must earn at least 15 percent support either statewide or within any number of the state’s 10 congressional districts to be allotted delegates. Candidates need 1,991 delegates to claim the Democratic nomination at the party’s July convention. If nobody hits that threshold, party leaders known as superdelegates will get involved.
