Motorcyclists crash on sand dune, then get run over by an ATV, Oregon cops say

A motorcyclist with a passenger sped over a sand dune and crashed — then an ATV driver did the same thing and smashed into the riders, Oregon police said.

A 21-year-old Washington man was seriously injured in the two crashes and had to be transported to a hospital, Coos County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Nathaniel Rowan was riding on the back of a motorcycle when his friend, 21-year-old Conner Main from Port Orchard, Washington, drove over a sand dune and small drop off at Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area authorities said.

“The motorcycle operator crashed because of the extra weight of the passenger pushing him forward, causing him to lose control,” the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said.

Then the 20-year-old driver of a four-wheeler, Jared Dubos, took the same path and smashed into the back of Rowan and Main, according to police.

“Main and Rowan were transported off the sand by Hauser Fire and then transported to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance,” officials said. “Rowan was then life-flighted to a larger hospital because of the seriousness of his injuries.”

Dubos was issued a DUI citation and all parties were allegedly intoxicated, police said. The incident is still being investigated.
