Parks offer free admission one day next week to celebrate National Parks birthday

The National Parks System has a birthday coming up, and they won’t look a day over 104.

As a way to celebrate the 104th birthday of America’s National Parks System, parks will be open to the public free of charge on Aug. 25. The free entry will be available at more than 100-plus state and national parks in Washington state. A Discover Pass will not be needed for single-day users of state parks.

To minimize the spread of COVID-19 by recreating responsibly, guests should:

  • Know what’s open before heading out.

  • Have a Plan B if a certain park is too crowded.

  • Keep a social distance of at least 6 feet between households.

  • Bring personal supplies such as soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper and face coverings.

  • Wear face coverings in indoor facilities, such as restrooms, and outdoors when social distancing isn’t possible.

  • Pack out what is packed in.

This will not be the last time that the national and state parks will be open to the public. There are five more free parks days on the 2020 calendar.
