March was full of a new type of madness this year as gas prices skyrocketed, increasing the national average gas price to $4.25, a 72 cent increase from last month, according to the American Automobile Association.

According to AAA, Washington’s average gas price has been increasing up to $4.72 on March 21, a 74 cent increase from last month’s average.

As counties across Washington state have seen dramatic increases in fuel costs, Whatcom County’s increase has been exponential.

According to AAA data, Whatcom County’s average gas price has jumped from $3.97 on March 1st, to $4.66 on March 21.

The chart shows the highest gas price in Whatcom County so far this month was $4.71 on March 14.

As gas prices are the highest they’ve been in months, many are looking into whether electric vehicles are truly more affordable options.
