75% of Washington citizens believe global warming is happening. See what your county thinks
Seventy-two percent of Americans believe global warming is happening, according to the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.
The program’s Climate Opinion Maps use public survey data from 2021 to show what people across the country believe about climate change.
Those surveyed were asked questions such as if global warming is real, if it is harmful and other beliefs they might hold about the issue.
In Washington state:
▪ 75% of citizens believe global warming is happening.
▪ 68% of citizens are worried about global warming.
▪ 79% of citizens believe global warming should be taught in schools.
▪ 76% of citizens believe global warming will harm future generations.
▪ 48% of citizens believe global warming will harm them personally.
▪ 25% of citizens support drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Here’s how opinions in Washington state and selected counties stack up:
Some counties in states such as Texas, Kentucky, Indiana, Wyoming and Utah, have counties where 50% or fewer of adults believe climate change is happening, according to Yale’s country-wide climate opinion map.
