The wrong Washington: NFL’s Commanders sell logo coffee mugs that are 2,700 miles off
No, the Washington Commanders didn’t move to Washington state.
But coffee mugs sold on Sunday, Sept. 11, seem to have said otherwise.
NBC Washington reporter Pete Hailey shared a photo of the strange coffee mug design on Twitter.
The cup had the Commanders team logo displayed over a Washington state outline despite the team being based in Washington, D.C., and playing its home games in Landover, Maryland.
A Washington Post reporter confirmed the mugs were being sold outside FedEx Field before the season opener from an official team truck — with the team’s logo and everything.
The mugs were then removed, according to the Post reporter.
But not before social media users made jokes.
“Well, at least you know where the new stadium will be,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“Get ready for the Spokane Commanders,” another person wrote.
The Washington Commanders also made a joke of their own by sending Hailey a coffee cup.
“Well well well. Looky here. Hilarious move by the Commanders to send me one of THE mugs. I’m honored,” Hailey said.
A spokesperson for the team did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on Sept. 15.
