Two girls fought off a stranger as he tried to kidnap them at a skate park in Washington, police said.

The man first approached the girls as they were walking to a convenience store near their home on Sunday, June 11, in Redmond, the city police department said in a Facebook post.

He asked the two to get in his car, police said. They said no and went inside the store.

When the girls left the store, they saw the man in the parking lot and took photos of him and his car because they thought it was suspicious, police said.

Then they walked to Edge Skate Park. The man then approached them on foot and tried to grab one of them, but both girls fought him off until he ran away, police said. They called police at about 11:25 p.m.

Authorities found him walking in the area and arrested him on charges of attempted kidnapping, assault and luring.

Redmond is about 15 miles northeast of Seattle.
