A couple “cried tears of joy” after the boyfriend scratched a winning lottery ticket worth $1 million in Washington.

The win came after a Bothell man decided to stop at a Safeway in Mill Creek, Washington’s Lottery said in a Dec. 18 news release.

He snagged a $20 Diamond Dazzler ticket more than he typically spends on a lottery game.

Once the two got back to his car, he scratched the ticket and saw he had a winning number.

“He couldn’t believe his eyes when the prize amount underneath it said ‘1MIL,’” lottery officials said in the release.

He showed the ticket to his girlfriend who in turn “freaked out” over the prize.

”The two hugged and cried tears of joy,” lottery officials said.

They have plans to use the prize money on vacations, new cars and investing in their future.

Mill Creek is about a 20-mile drive north from Seattle.
