A backcountry skier got injured in a 1,000-foot fall in the Washington wilderness, and the rescue was caught on camera.

The incident happened Jan. 22 near Stevens Pass, the King County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit said in a Jan. 24 YouTube video.

The skier had injured his leg in a steep fall and needed help, so someone used an Apple Watch to send an SOS message to authorities, deputies said.

Authorities later learned there were three people who needed rescuing, two of whom were injured, deputies said.

Once rescuers got their coordinates, a helicopter was sent to the area to find them.

A video shows a rescuer being hoisted down from the helicopter to the skiers after 7:30 p.m.

The rescuer helps the skiers get hoisted into the helicopter, deputies said.

Stevens Pass is about an 85-mile drive northeast from Seattle.
