A 17-year-old teen hiker died after falling at a popular waterfall in Washington, deputies said.

Rescuers got a 911 text at about 1:20 p.m. June 27 from Fall Creek Falls, north of Carson, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said.

The teen was visiting the area from Happy Valley, Oregon, deputies said.

She fell 30 feet into a creek at the waterfall, so rescuers rushed to save her, deputies said.

The teen was taken to an ambulance, then airlifted to a hospital where she died, deputies said.

Fall Creek Falls is a 335-foot waterfall that is made up of three tiers, according to the Friends of the Columbia Gorge.

The trek to the waterfall is a 3.4-mile out-and-back hike with an elevation gain of 750 feet.

Carson is about a 50-mile drive northeast of Portland, Oregon.
