A family member discovered a homemade bomb in a man’s Washington home after his death, deputies said.

The improvised explosive device was found at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in an unincorporated part of Bremerton, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

The man who lived in the home had died, and his relative was cleaning it out when she discovered the pipe bomb under his bed, deputies said.

Deputies said it was about 4 inches long, “wrapped in tape with a fuse sticking out of one end.”

A bomb squad responded and put it through an X-ray. The unit said the device had “a powdered substance believed to be explosive.”

The team took the bomb to get rid of it.

Bremerton is west of Seattle, across Puget Sound.
