Tuesday's Prep Roundup: Sedro-Woolley softball team plays well before game gets postponed
SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Sedro-Woolley High School softball team was thriving in rather hostile playing conditions Tuesday before its game against Ferndale was halted because of weather.
The Cubs led 20-0 before the game was postponed.

Mount Vernon Bulldogs 4
LAKEWOOD - The Cougars handled the Bulldogs in the Northwest Conference game.
Mount Vernon catcher Alivia Luvera went 2-for-3 with two doubles, while Braelyn Snyder was 1-for-3 with a triple.
The Bulldogs are 1-5 in conference and 1-5 overall.
Coupeville Wolves 10,
La Conner Braves 0
COUPEVILLE - The Wolves blanked the Braves in the nonleague game.
La Conner is 3-2.

Mount Vernon Bulldogs 1,

MOUNT VERNON - The Bulldogs' Angel Reyes scored in the 37th minute of the Northwest Conference match off an assist from Julian Martinez for the match's only goal.
"I'm extremely proud of how the boys showed up," Mount Vernon coach Behr Ibarra said. "They played with passion and grit and battled until the final whistle to secure three valuable points against Lynden."
Goalies Noah Tebb and Lucas Melnik combined for the shutout, and Ibarra also highlighted the defensive play of Jake Robertson, Carlos Ramirez and Von Franulovich.
Ibarra said they delivered strong performances, repeatedly holding off a persistent Lynden attack.
"Santiago Camarena earned Dawg of the Match honors. He was the workhorse in the middle of the park," Ibarra said. "The stat sheet won't fully capture his impact, but his presence gave us control and allowed us to create quality opportunities throughout the match."
The Bulldogs are 7-1-1 in conference and 7-1-1 overall.
Meridian Trojans 5,
Sedro-Woolley Cubs 3
SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Cubs fell to the Trojans in the Northwest Conference match.
"We're healthy but defensively rusty and individual responsibility is not quite there," Sedro-Woolley coach Tyler Huggins said. "We're struggling to equal the sum of our parts and there isn't much time to left to realize our potential."
Meridian scored twice in the first five minutes to take an early 2-0 lead, however, Wyatt Tyra scored off an assist from PJ Hernandez to make it 2-1 at the half.
In the second half, Sedro-Woolley tied the match when Santiago Salas drew a foul outside the box and Hernandez put the free kick into the back of the net, then took the lead as a Jared Castellanos cross bounced around the box until it found the foot of Tyra who scored to make it 3-2.
Meridian stormed back to score three straight goals and secure the win.
The Cubs are 1-5-4 in conference and 1-6-4 overall.
Burlington-Edison Tigers 2,
Blaine Borderites 0
BLAINE - The Tigers shut out the Borderites in the Northwest Conference match.
"This was a good win for us," Burlington-Edison coach Ryan Kuttel said. "The evening started out with a torrential downpour with high winds and cold temps. The boys pushed through that to really control the game from start to finish and never really allowed Blaine to threaten our goal."
Burlington-Edison's Jesus Dorado Franco scored in the first half off a corner kick from Julio Gonzalez Gonzalez.
In the second half, Ryland Lockwood scored an unassisted goal.
Isaac Arellano notched the shutout in goal for the Tigers, and Kuttle highlighted the play of Luis Andrade Ramos on defense and Taven Clancy, who Kuttel said did a great job controlling play in the midfield.
"We are hoping this win can be a springboard for us going forward to play more consistent soccer and finish the regular season strong in our last five games," Kuttel said.
The Tigers are 3-5-2 in conference and 3-6-2 overall.

Anacortes Seahawks 0
FERNDALE - The Seahawks were shut out by the Golden Eagles in the Northwest Conference match.
Anacortes is 2-7 in conference and 3-8 overall.

Sedro-Woolley Cubs 4,
Burlington-Edison Tigers 3
MOUNT VERNON - The Cubs swept the four singles matches in the Northwest Conference match played on the covered courts at Skagit Valley College.
Sedro-Woolley's Ruby Hudson won 6-4, 7-6(7-0), Jasmyn Burkhalter 3-6, 6-2, 10-8, Kylie Horkley 6-1, 6-1, and aJunie Thompson 6-2, 6-2.
The Tigers swept doubles.
Hazel Cosgrove and Macy Hendrickson won 6-3, 6-0, Kate Granger and Keira Taylor 2-6, 7-6(7-5), and Mikala Shaw and Kelsey Ruiz Heredia 2-6, 7-6(7-5), 10-5.
Girls' Golf
Northwest Conference Match
BELLINGHAM - The match was originally scheduled for 18 holes, but was shortened to nine due to severe weather.
Burlington-Edison topped the seven-team field with a five-golfer total 243 and Sedro Woolley was second at 299.
"It was the only time that I can remember a tournament being shortened after it was started, but it really was pure biological survival out there today," Burlington-Edison coach Greg Knutzen said.
Burlington-Edison's Caity Horton took medalist honors with a nine-hole round of 45.
Burlington-Edison's Anna Horton and Morgan Perry tied for third at 48, while teammates Paige Dodds, Kylee Vanderark and Hanna Biringer tied for seventh at 51.
Taryn Torgerson paced the Cubs with a fifth-place round of 49, while Grace Meeker shot a 51 to finish in a tie for seventh. Cadence Natoli tied for 14th (54), Kylie Fitzgerald finished 26th (71) and Sammy Brown was 28th (74).
