Chehalis Farmers Market to begin in May
The Chehalis Farmers Market has announced it will open a month earlier this year, starting May 5.
The hours of the market have changed as well, opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 3 p.m. The market will run every Tuesday from May through Oct. 27.
Saturday markets have been postponed this year.
"We plan to revisit the idea of a second weekly market day in the future to better serve those unable to attend during the current schedule," said Evelyn Walnik, market manager. "For now, the focus remains on continuing to strengthen and grow the Tuesday market."
This season introduces new vendors and offerings. Residents can look forward to locally made artisan cheeses crafted from Guernsey cow's milk, Wagyu beef, a greater selection of baked goods and new produce vendors.
Throughout the month of May, there will be a special emphasis on plant starts and gardening essentials. Shoppers can expect a selection of vegetable starts, annuals, herbs, native plants, fruiting plants and other perennials.
The market will feature 27 unique vendors this season.
Other offerings include henna tattoos, native plants, two new food vendors offering ready-to-eat sandwiches, wraps, salads, desserts, cold and hot drinks, and New Orleans-style beignets.
The market will continue to run its children's booth where kids can complete an educational activity and receive $2 to spend at the market on fresh fruits or vegetables.
The market accepts SNAP EBT at the information booth and matches benefits up to $10 in SNAP Market Match. WIC/Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program cards can be accepted directly at booths of participating farm vendors.
Residents can view the market's social media posts ahead of time to see weekly market vendor schedules. Specific vendors and products may vary week to week.
