19-year-old JBLM resident dies in motorcycle crash
A 19-year-old resident of Joint Base Lewis-McChord died Saturday following a motorcycle crash on state Route 7 in Pierce County, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
Tanner J. Trolinder was pronounced dead at the scene. The Army has notified next of kin.
According to WSP, Trolinder was riding a 2002 Honda VFR800 southbound on Route 7 near Pilgrim Road at about 2 p.m. April 18 when he failed to negotiate a curve and instead entered the northbound lane.
He then struck an embankment.
A second motorcycle heading northbound, driven by Steven J. Zakholy, 21, of Auburn, struck the Honda, which came to rest in the northbound ditch.
Zakholy's motorcycle, a 2007 Yamaha YZF-R6, came to rest on the southbound shoulder, troopers said. Zakholy was uninjured in the collision.
Both men were reportedly wearing federally compliant helmets.
In its incident report, WSP listed the cause of the accident as improper lane use, and noted that no drugs or alcohol were involved. Troopers said the roadway was blocked for five hours.
