Friday's Prep Roundup: Mount Vernon baseball team extends win streak

SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Mount Vernon High School baseball team beat Sedro-Woolley 3-1 on Friday in a Northwest Conference game.

Mount Vernon, 12-0 in conference and 16-1 overall, has won 15 consecutive games. The Bulldogs are No. 3 in Class 3A state RPI.

The Bulldogs and Cubs were scoreless through four innings.

Mount Vernon went ahead 2-0 in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Reece Roberts.

Bulldogs pitcher Connor Swanson gave up one run on six hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out 11.

Cubs pitcher Bryson Friedrichs allowed two runs on six hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Roberts was 2-for-3 and teammate Camran Leslie 2-for-3, while Sedro-Woolley's Michael Lloyd was 2-for-3 and Jake Martin 2-for-4. The Cubs' run was driven in by Cail Wilson.

Sedro-Woolley is 7-6 in conference and 12-6 overall.

SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Cubs defeated the Eagles in a five-inning nonconference game.

Sedro-Woolley's McKenna Edwards was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBI; Reagan Evans 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI; Kasandra Gonzalez 3-for-3 with an RBI; and Kaylie Nurmi 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.

Gonzalez pitched all five innings, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out 15.

Sedro-Woolley is 14-2.

Boys' Soccer

Anacortes Seahawks 0

MOUNT VERNON - The Bulldogs beat the Seahawks in a Northwest Conference match.

Elijah Natekin scored both of Mount Vernon's goals. Von Franulovich and Rio Ibarra Troha had assists.

The Bulldogs' win came on their Senior Night.

"As we celebrated our seniors, I was very pleased with the way the team played," Mount Vernon coach Behr Ibarra said. "We moved the ball well and created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the match."

Mount Vernon goalkeeper Lucas Melnik posted the shutout.

The Bulldogs are 11-1-1 in conference and 11-1-1 overall, while the Seahawks are 4-9 in conference and 5-10 overall.

Mount Vernon is No. 3 in Class 3A state RPI.

Track and Field

Western High School Invitational

BELLINGHAM - Ten Skagit County athletes won individual event titles on the first day of the two-day meet.

La Conner had champions in Maeve McCormick in the girls pole vault (10 feet, 2 inches), Flint Huizenga in the boys' javelin (166-2) and Faith Jenkins in the girls' 200 (25.69 seconds).

Sedro-Woolley's Chase Chambers won the boys' triple jump (41-6), Kayla Camp the girls' long jump (16-5) and Ethan DeJong in the boys' 110 hurdles (14.90).

Anacortes had champions in Emily Pianetta in the girls' 800 (2:33.35), Austin Duchene in the boys' 200 (22.07), Lucy Lemrick in the girls' 3,200 (12:02.28) and Owen Kennedy in the boys' 3,200 (9:44.42).

Anacortes won the boys' 800 relay (1:32.85).
