Sedro-Woolley High School baseball pitcher signs to play at Morningside University

SEDRO-WOOLLEY - Sedro-Woolley High School baseball player Trey Gardner recently signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa.

"Trey is so deserving to play at the next level, and we could not be more thrilled for him to be heading to Morningside to continue his baseball career," Sedro-Woolley coach Nate Anderson said.

Morningside plays in the Great Plains Athletic Conference along with 11 other National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics teams from colleges in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

This season, Gardner has pitched 32 1/2 innings for the Cubs and has a 2.14 ERA with 35 strikeouts and six walks.

As a junior, Gardner earned second-team all-Northwest Conference honors and boasted a record of 5-0. He saw action in 31 1/2 innings, and finished with 28 strikeouts, seven walks and an ERA of 1.10.

"Not only is Trey's performance on the field awesome, but his conduct on the field, in the classroom and in the community is exemplary," Anderson said. "He has become a team leader for us and loves to help our younger players if they need a hand."

Gardner plans on studying to become a commercial pilot, working to earn a bachelor's degree in professional flight.

"He is going to thrive at Morningside, both in baseball and in becoming a pilot," Anderson said. "He and his family had a plan and a vision and they went out and executed that plan. Because of that, and all of Trey's hard work, he has a great future ahead of him."
