Saturday's Prep Roundup: Sedro-Woolley wins team track and field titles

BELLINGHAM - The Sedro-Woolley High School track and field teams won the team titles Saturday on the final day of the two-day, 12-team Western High School Invitational.

Sedro-Woolley finished 33 points ahead of runner-up Anacortes in the boys' meet, and 48 points ahead of runner-up Anacortes in the girls' meet.

The Cubs' Lyla Self won two titles on Saturday, taking the girls' 100-meter run in 12.50 seconds and the 400 in 59.31.

Also winning titles Saturday for Sedro-Woolley were Ethan DeJong in the boys' 300 hurdles (41.28), and Jordan Janicki in the boys' pole vault (12 feet, 3 inches).

Anacortes had five individual champions Saturday - Maverick Ball in the boys' 1,600 (4:24.73), Austin Duchene in the boys' 400 (49.81), Ryder Sill in the boys' 100 (11.15), Ashley Becerra-Guzman in the girls' 1,600 (5:35.21), and Elliot Davis in the girls' javelin (117-9).

The Seahawks also won the boys' 400 relay (43.55) and the boys' 1,600 relay (3:23.20).

La Conner's Yandel Rosales-Rojas won the boys' long jump (21-4).

Eason Invitational

SNOHOMISH - Burlington-Edison's Jensen King won a title in the 54-team meet.

The senior was first in the open boys' 300 hurdles (40.53 seconds).

Teammate Dylan Dempsey was second in the varsity boys' high jump (6-4), and Evan Forthun third in the varsity boys' 400 (49.76).

King's Invitational

SHORELINE - Mount Vernon Christian's Logan Mounts won a title at the 23-team meet.

The senior was first in the boys' 110 hurdles (16.21).

Teammate Caleb Link was second in the discus (138-1 1/2), and Seth Russell third in the long jump (31-3 1/2).

The Hurricanes' boys' 400 relay team placed third (44.55).

In the girls' meet, Mount Vernon Christian's Avery McCullough was third in the 100 (13.31), and Grace Mounts third in the high jump (4-8).

The Hurricanes were second in girls' 400 relay (52.22), third in the 800 relay (1:49.95) and third in the 1,600 relay (4:20.88).

Cow Town Classic

COUPEVILLE - Concrete's Zack Richter placed among the top three in two events in the seven-team meet.

The sophomore was first in the boys' javelin (121 feet, 7 inches) and third in the boys' 200 (25.30 seconds).

Baseball

Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes 0

BELLINGHAM - The Hurricanes fell to the Storm in a nonleague game.

Mount Vernon Christian is 14-3.

Softball

Anacortes Seahawks 17,

Sehome Mariners 4

BELLINGHAM - The Seahawks beat the Mariners in a sixth-inning Northwest Conference game.

Anacortes' Gwen Andrews went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, a run scored and four RBI; Olivia Mcmanigle 3-for-4 with a double, walk, three runs scored and an RBI; Amelia Myers 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI; Hailey Rains 2-for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI; Kaydence Lemmons 2-for-5 with a walk, triple, run scored and two RBI; and Joy Evans 1-for-4 with a walk, home run, two runs scored and four RBI.

Anacortes led 7-4 through five innings, then scored 10 runs in the sixth.

Seahawks pitcher Evie Hanes allowed four runs and struck out eight in four innings, while Lemmons pitched two shutout innings.

Anacortes is 6-4 in conference and 9-6 overall.

Burlington-Edison Tigers 5,

LYNDEN - The Tigers beat the Lions in a Northwest Conference game.

Burlington-Edison pitcher Katelyn Billings allowed five hits and three walks in her seven innings of work. She struck out 16.

The Tigers' Stella Kowalski was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI, and Abby Herrgesell 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Burlington-Edison is 10-0 in conference and 14-2 overall.

Girls' Tennis

Northwest Conference Doubles Tournament

BELLINGHAM - Anacortes' Carter Bowman and Claire Dekker placed fifth on the final day of the two-day tournament that included 16 doubles teams.

Burlington-Edison had the team of Hazel Cosgrove and Macy Hendrickson go 2-2 in the tournament, and the team of Kiera Taylor and Sophia Shane 0-2.

Cosgrove and Hendrickson won 6-2, 6-2 in their tournament opener.

They then lost 6-4, 6-4, won 6-1, 6-1, and lost 7-5, 6-3.

Cosgrove and Hendrickson's final match was for fourth place.

"All four players grown tremendously since the start of the season and to play so competitively with the top 32 in the conference says a lot," Burlington-Edison coach Chris Cammock said. "This tournament is great preparation for postseason district in two weeks where many if not all will see each other again."
