The Chronicle to host Lewis County commission candidate forum
Two of the four candidates for the District 3 seat on the Lewis County Board of Commissioners will attend a meet-and-greet event and forum hosted by The Chronicle this week.
Incumbent Lewis County District 3 Commissioner Scott Brummer and challenger and Lewis County Democrats Chair Zac Eckstein will be available for questions during the candidate forum event at Jester's Auto Museum in Chehalis starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Two other candidates, Kyle Wheeler and Michael Hadaller, both confirmed that they will not attend.
In a recent Facebook post, Wheeler said he chose not to attend the event because he feels the event held before candidate filing opens next week could dissuade others from declaring for the ballot. He added the event is also scheduled during the operating hours of his business, the Toledo Cheese Depot.
"Being a small business owner also has an advantage here though - y'all can actually have a personal meet and greet with me anytime during normal business hours at Toledo Cheese Depot!" Wheeler said in the post.
The event will follow the same structure as the recent Lewis County sheriff candidate forum hosted by The Chronicle in the same location. Each candidate will have a chance to provide a brief introduction before the event's hosts and owners of The Chronicle, Chad and Coralee Taylor, open the event with questions for the candidates to respond to before allowing members of the audience to ask questions.
The event is not intended as a debate. Candidates are encouraged to respond to any questions asked, but will not be asked to respond to each other.
All are welcome to the event, which will also offer snacks and light refreshments. Those who cannot attend can also attend virtually by tuning into a livestream on The Chronicle Facebook page.
