Tuesday's Prep Roundup: Sedro-Woolley boys' soccer team tops Anacortes
SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Sedro-Woolley High School boys' soccer team beat Anacortes 5-3 on Tuesday in a Northwest Conference match.
The Cubs' Wyatt Tyra and PJ Hernandez each had two goals, while Santiago Salas had one.
"We're finally seeing the team we had envisioned for this season, and while we didn't make it as far up the mountain as we anticipated, being able to have these moments of collective excellence are a blessing," Sedro-Woolley coach Tyler Huggins said. "I specifically want to highlight seniors Claudio Martinez Chino and Josue Lopez, who I thought were phenomenal tonight."
Owen Foley scored each of the Seahawks' three goals, with Noah Leon assisting on one.
Sedro-Woolley is 3-7-4 in conference and 3-8-4 overall, while Anacortes is 4-10 in conference and 5-11 overall.
Mount Vernon Bulldogs 2,
Bellingham Bayhawks 0
BELLINGHAM - Jake Robertson scored the Bulldogs' two goals off assists by Elijah Natekin in the Northwest Conference match.
"I was proud of the effort and tenacity the boys displayed throughout the night," Mount Vernon coach Behr Ibarra said. "It was a disciplined performance built on grit and teamwork."
In goal for Mount Vernon, Noah Tebb and Lucas Melnik combined for the shutout.
"Melnik managed the early stages calmly, while Tebb made three key saves late in the match to preserve the lead," Ibarra said. "Overall, it was a strong team effort and an important result."
Mount Vernon is 12-1-1 in conference and 12-1-1 overall. The Bulldogs are No. 3 in Class 3A state RPI.
Burlington-Edison Tigers 3,
Oak Harbor Wildcats 2
OAK HARBOR - The Tigers had just enough to get past the Wildcats in the Northwest Conference match.
Oak Harbor led 2-1 at halftime.
"We talked at halftime about what the recipe would be for us to bounce back and earn the win," Burlington-Edison coach Ryan Kuttel said. "The boys responded really well."
The Tigers had goals from Jesus Dorado Franco, Roy Montiel and Erick Torres.
Torres' goal broke the 2-2 tie.
"I could not be prouder of how the boys played last night," Kuttel said. "We have been pretty depleted this year with major injuries, illness, and missing some players for a variety of other reasons.
"To travel to Oak Harbor and beat them on their home field with just a couple of subs was a real accomplishment."
The Tigers are 6-6-2 in conference and 6-7-2 overall.

MOUNT VERNON - Bulldogs pitcher Gunnar Rindal was dominant in the Northwest Conference game.
He allowed one run on three hits, struck out 12 and walked four in his seven innings on the mound.
Mount Vernon had 11 hits with Bode Webb, Reece Roberts, Kaiden Anderson and Brady Collins with two apiece. Webb and Baird Brewer each had two RBI.
The Bulldogs are 13-0 in conference and 17-1 overall. They are No. 2 in Class 3A state RPI.
Burlington-Edison Tigers 4,

BURLINGTON - The Tigers shut out the Bayhawks in the Northwest Conference game.
The Tigers scored two runs in both the second and sixth innings.
Burlington-Edison's Isaiah Aguilar was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, while Zak Fleshman was 3-for-3 with an RBI.
On the mound, Fleshman threw a four-hit complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts and two walks.
The Tigers are 10-4 in conference and 14-4 overall.

Ferndale Golden Eagles 4
SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Cubs beat the Golden Eagles in the Northwest Conference game.
Sedro-Woolley scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up the win.
The Cubs' Michael Lloyd was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Treyson Plymale was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Sedro-Woolley pitcher Trey Gardner allowed three earned run on six hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings, while Jake Martin pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.
Sedro-Woolley is 8-6 in conference and 13-6 overall.

LYNDEN - The Lions beat the Seahawks in the Northwest Conference game.
Anacortes' Aiden Lefave pitched 6 2/3 innings, and Wes Green got the final out on a strikeout.
The Seahawks are 10-4 in conference and 13-6 overall.

LA CONNER - The Braves defeated the Loggers in the Northwest 2B/1B League game.
La Conner is 3-4 in league and 4-9 overall.

SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Cubs beat the Trojans in the five-inning Northwest Conference game.
Sedro-Woolley pitcher Kasandra Gonzalez threw a no-hitter, allowing no walks and striking out 14. She hit one batter.
The Cubs' BriEllen Kononen was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI; Lexi Holt was 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBI; McKenna Lewellen 2-for-2 with a home run, run scored and four RBI; Gonzalez 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI; Kaylie Nurmi 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI; and Peyton Brownfield 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Sedro-Woolley is 10-0 in conference, 15-2 overall and No. 3 in Class 3A state RPI.

She had 18 strikeouts in the seven-inning game.
Burlington-Edison's Abby Herrgesell was 5-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while Stella Kowalski was 3-for-5 with three RBI.
The Tigers, No. 4 in Class 2A state RPI, are 11-0 in conference and 13-2 overall.

Mount Vernon is 2-7 in conference and 2-8 overall.

FERNDALE - The Golden Eagles beat the Seahawks in the Northwest Conference game.
Anacortes' Gwen Andrew, Emery Collier and Hailey Rains were each 2-for-4, while Cora Myers was 1-for-3 with a triple, run scored and three RBI.
The Seahawks lost despite outhitting the Golden Eagles 9-6.
Anacortes is 6-5 in conference and 9-7 overall.

LA CONNER - The Braves fell to the Loggers in the Northwest 2B/1B League game,
La Conner is 2-4 in league and 4-6 overall.
Boys' Golf
Northwest Conference
BELLINGHAM - Burlington-Edison won the eight-team match at North Bellingham Golf Course.
The Tigers had a five-golfer total 396, while Sedro-Woolley was seventh with a score of 452.
Burlington-Edison's Wyatt Brownell finished as medalist with a round of 64, while Sedro-Woolley's Riley Friebel was second at 73.
Burlington-Edison's other four scoring golfers had strong rounds.
Logan Arendse tied for eighth at 81, Cael Hamilton tied for 11th at 82, Cooper Winch tied for 15th at 80 and Cruz Hanstead tied for 18th at 85.
Northwest Conference
Anacortes won the eight-team match at Avalon Golf Links with a five-golfer total 418.
Seahawks sophomore Dex Hong finished second with a round of 77. He shot 36 on the back nine.
Vance Frerichs tied for third with a round of 80, while Sledge Martinez tied for eighth with an 83.
