Mountain Film Festival in Concrete
The Concrete Theatre's Mountain Film Festival will showcase the spirit of mountain life through a variety of films and activities from Friday to Sunday.
The festival begins at 7 p.m. Friday with the 2024 documentary "Rainier: A Beer Odyssey," which explores the Rainier Beer TV commercials that aired from 1974 to 1987. Following the film, there will be a Q&A with the filmmakers and a raffle for Rainier Beer merchandise. Admission is $10.
On Saturday, there are six things on the schedule:
* A free workshop on finding ways to love exercising outdoors with a scavenger hunt from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
* A free block of short films that highlight the critters and creatures of the North Cascades from 1 to 2:15 p.m.
* A $10 showing of the 2024 documentary "Tracing the Divide" from 3 to 4:15 p.m.
* A $10 screening of the 2023 documentary "Where the Rope Ends" from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Admission goes toward a fundraiser for Skagit County Search and Rescue
* A $10 double-screening of the documentaries "The Passage" and "Two Point Four" from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
* A $10 showing of the 2025 documentary "Girl Climber" from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be a triple feature, where attendees can see all three films for $10. The films are:
* The 2012 documentary "The Mountain Runners" about America's first mountain endurance race, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
* From 2 to 4 p.m., the 2017 documentary "Dirtbag: The Legend of Fred Beckey," about a 94-year-old mountain climber
* The 2025 period drama film "Train Dreams" from 5 to 7 p.m.

MAY 4
"The Empire Strikes Back" at the Lincoln
In celebration of Star Wars Day, a play on the pun "May the 4th be with you," the 1980 film "The Empire Strikes Back" will be shown at the Lincoln Theatre.
Doors open at 6 p.m., a costume contest starts at 6:30, and the screening begins at 7.
The Lincoln's event description says, "It doesn't matter if you're a Jedi Master or a scruffy-looking nerf-herder - don your best robes, grab your lightsabers, and join your fellow fans for a night of epic battles and unforgettable characters. It's more than a movie - it's a celebration!"
