Second measles case confirmed in Walla Walla County

The Walla Walla County Department of Community Health has identified the second case of measles in the county this year.

The department announced in a Tuesday, April 28, news release that the case was confirmed in an unvaccinated resident who was exposed during international travel. The person spent time in Walla Walla County during their contagious period and more cases are possible.

Le Dang's Mongolian Grill, 1642 Plaza Way, has been identified as the only public exposure site so far. The exposure period occurred from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, April 20.

The incubation period for measles is seven to 21 days, so anyone who became infected during the exposure period at Le Dang's Mongolian Grill would most likely start to experience symptoms between Monday, April 27, and Monday, May 18.

The department is working to identify any other exposure sites and is notifying people who have been in close contact with the infected person.

Anyone who has possibly been exposed to measles should check their vaccination records and monitor their health. If you develop a fever or unexplained rash, call a health care provider before going to a clinic or hospital to prevent spreading the virus to others.
