Deputies arrest Vancouver man after multiple rounds shot at homes in the Mount Vista area
May 4-Clark County sheriff's deputies arrested a 30-year-old Vancouver man Sunday morning after he allegedly fired multiple rounds at homes and tried to set a residence on fire in the Mount Vista area, according to an agency news release.
Cyree Phillips was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of first-degree attempted burglary, first-degree arson, reckless endangerment, third-degree malicious mischief and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Phillips was set to make a first appearance on the allegations Monday in Clark County Superior Court.
Around 10:30 a.m., neighbors in the 1800 block of Northeast 156th Street reported a man firing a gun outside their windows. Several homes were damaged by bullets. The sheriff's office reported no injuries.
One 911 caller reported an unknown man firing a handgun. The caller and their family fled to an upstairs room to hide for safety, according to the news release.
As deputies arrived at the scene, Phillips emerged from a side gate of a home carrying a handgun. He complied with orders to drop the weapon and surrendered immediately, the sheriff's office said.
Witnesses told investigators that Phillips tried to force his way into one home, but the homeowner managed to lock the door before he could enter, according to the news release.
Investigators found numerous shell casings in a backyard and discovered evidence that Phillips used lighter fluid in an attempt to start a fire against the side of one of the houses, according to the news release.
Deputies temporarily closed Northeast Union Road to search for additional shooters due to conflicting initial reports, but they later confirmed Phillips acted alone.
The sheriff's office said Phillips is not known to the residents of the neighborhood.
