4 displaced by Malaga fire

A family dog died and four people were displaced from their Malaga home Tuesday morning after it burned down in a fire.

The Wenatchee Valley Fire Department was dispatched at 4:58 a.m. to the 4000 block of Joe Miller Road to a house on fire, according to Chief Brian Brett. When crews arrived, Brett said, the home was engulfed in flames.

Four occupants were inside when the fire began. Brett said the homeowner was woken up by the reflection of flickering flames coming from what appeared to be the back deck.

Firefighters conducted a defensive attack as the fire spread through the first floor and into the upper level, causing partial roof collapses. The home is considered a total loss, though crews were able to save one room.

No injuries were reported. However, the family's dog was unable to escape and died in the fire.

Brett said the American Red Cross was not contacted for help with displacement.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Chelan County Fire Marshal's Office.
