Longview WordFest to feature poet, songwriter, more

Writers plan to share their pieces at a monthly gathering called WordFest from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1428 22nd Ave. in Longview.

An open mic will follow the presentations, where people can read for 10 minutes at the free, public event, according to an event press release.

The writers

James Dott will read from his new poetry collection, "Touch Wood" from Watershed Press, featuring poems about trees and the short life of David Douglas, an early botanist who cataloged Northwest trees.

Dott was born in Eugene, grew up in Wisconsin and now lives in Astoria, according to the press release.

Tami J. Whitmore will share from her latest book, "The Year Around: A 1930's Diary," about a 1909 diary she discovered in her newly purchased rural property's storage shed in 2020.

Whitmore grew up on a wheat farm in rural south-central Washington state.

Writer Craig Werner will discuss songwriting as storytelling, the press release states.

He is a musician and the author of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
