No one was injured after Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, Cowlitz County Fire District 5 in Kalama, and the Department of Natural Resources responded to the fire at 4:43 p.m., according to a Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue press release.

Once at the home in the 1000 block of Lincoln Road, crews report seeing multiple slash piles burning and a 10-foot-by-300-foot fire that had spread into nearby brush.

Crews had to use multiple hose lines, but the fire was contained just before 7 p.m., the press release states.

They remained at the scene for several hours to monitor flare-ups.

The homeowner didn't have a permit to burn, Cowlitz 2 reports. The department advises people to secure permits and use good judgment before burning yard debris, especially as the dry season approaches.

The county bans most outdoor burning from July 15 through Sept. 30 each year, and burn permits are rescinded at that time.
