A candidate has entered the race to become Skagit County's sheriff.

Chris Baldwin, who is chief of field operations with the Skagit County Sheriff's Office, filed to run for sheriff Wednesday on the third day of the weeklong filing period for the Nov. 3 general election.

As of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, he was the only candidate running for sheriff.

The filing period will be open through 5 p.m. Friday.

Races with three or more candidates will be on the ballot for the Aug. 4 primary election, while those with one or two candidates will go straight to the general election ballot.

Also filing to run Wednesday was Lacey Sauvageau of Lake Stevens for a seat in the state House of Representatives.

Sauvageau has filed to run for the 39th Legislative District Position 2 seat, which is currently held by Carolyn Eslick.

Eslick has announced she will not run for reelection.

Sauvageu, a Republican, joins a three-candidate field that includes Ida Keeley, a Democrat, and Steve Ewing, a Republican.

The 39th Legislative District includes the eastern portions of Skagit and Snohomish counties, including Sedro-Woolley and Concrete.

Skagit County ballots will include the U.S. House Representatives race for Congressional District 2, six state House of Representative races, one Skagit County Superior Court judge race, three Skagit County District Court judge races, eight other county races, and a Skagit Public Utility District Board of Commissioners race.

The nonjudicial county races are for assessor, auditor, clerk, coroner, prosecuting attorney, sheriff, treasurer and the District 3 seat on the Board of Commissioners.

As of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, 14 of 21 incumbents in races that will be on Skagit County ballots have filed to run for reelection.

They are U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (Congressional District 2), state Rep. Clyde Shavers (10th District, Position 1), state Rep. Dave Paul (10th District, Position 2), state Rep.
