Walla Walla man charged with rape, strangulation
A Walla Walla man, who is facing three felony charges, is accused of violently raping a woman and strangling her.
Tyler Steven James Mosley, 27, is charged with first-degree rape inflicting serious injury, second-degree rape with forceable compulsion and second-degree assault with strangulation. The crimes allegedly occurred on Tuesday, May 5.
According to court documents, a woman contacted police saying that Mosley had raped her. The woman said she had met Mosley recently and that he had been helpful to her.
The documents show that she told police he asked her to bring food over to his place and they were eating on his bed when he allegedly attacked her.
Mosley is also accused of using his open palm and the back of his hand to strike the victim.
Mosley was arrested the same day and booked into the Walla Walla County Jail.
He made his first appearance in Walla Walla County Superior Court on Wednesday, May 6. At that hearing, it was unclear to the court whether Mosley would qualify to be assigned a public defender because of his income.
Walla Walla County Superior Court Judge Patricia Fulton appointed defense attorney Rob Olson to represent him only for that hearing.
Fulton set bail at $30,000 after the prosecution asked for $100,000 and Olson asked for $10,000.
As of Monday, May 11, Mosley had not posted bail and remained in custody, according to the Walla Walla County Jail Roster.
On Friday, May 8, the court ruled that Mosley was indigent and assigned attorney Asheley Kulberg to represent him.
Mosley is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, May 14, in front of Judge Brandon L. Johnson.
