Brush fire near homes in Sunnyslope contained by firefighters
Firefighters contained a brush fire near homes off American Fruit Road on Tuesday before it could spread further uphill.
The Wenatchee Valley Fire Department responded to the brush fire at around 5:30 p.m. The fire was initially reported at about 30-by-30 feet before spreading uphill through sagebrush, according to Chief Brian Brett.
Crews used access roads above and below the fire to contain it to about one-eighth of an acre within an hour.
Brett said the fire showed how quickly dry vegetation is already burning in the region, with sagebrush capable of igniting nearby brush on its own as flames moved uphill.
The fire burned near homes and produced flames up to 10 feet high, according to Brett, but no injuries or damaged structures were reported.
