Authorities swarm Vancouver waterfront Thursday afternoon

May 14-Dozens of law enforcement officers rushed to the Vancouver waterfront Thursday after an assault suspect refused to surrender at The Columbia at the Waterfront apartments.

Vancouver police responded about 11 a.m. to 1111 W. Columbia Way for a report that a man had assaulted a resident. The woman was not seriously injured and left the apartment to meet with police, according to a news release from the department.

The man, who was armed with a knife, refused commands to come out of the apartment, police said.

Shortly after 1 p.m., Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency issued a shelter-in-place order for residents of the building.

The Southwest Washington Regional SWAT Team responded to the building, along with multiple law enforcement agencies.

After hours of negotiations, Vancouver police announced about 2:20 p.m. that the man exited the apartment and was safely taken into custody.

Dominique J. Lane, 34, was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of second-degree domestic violence assault.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after.

Access to the area was limited while police worked. Pedestrian and vehicle routes reopened soon after.
