Educational Service District 112 and the Washington Association of School Administrators recognized senior Isayah Eddleman and junior Mallory Wells earlier this month with a school leadership award for promoting inclusivity, equity, access and belonging, according to a Kelso schools press release.

They will receive the award during the June 8 Kelso School Board meeting, before the Special Olympics games set for later that month.

Kelso Superintendent Mary Beth Tack was honored with a regional award of merit for advancing math instruction, as well as her mentorship of area superintendents.

Last year, she also received a regional award for student achievement leadership and a statewide award for learning from leaders.

Nonprofit, businesses

Groups outside the school district were also recognized.

The Kelso Business & Community Association, Kampgrounds LLC and Clear Choice Construction LLC earned community leadership awards at the May 15 event.

Award

Kelso Business & Community Association President Lindsey Cope poses with the group's award.

The business nonprofit raised more than $5,000 during its Hilander Hustle St. Patrick's Day event to help Kelso's Future Business Leaders of American students attend nationals, according to the school press release.

The group also hosts an annual Kelso Kids Bridge Market where young entrepreneurs sell items, and works with Kelso's Future Farmers of America students to grow flowers for downtown.

The companies helped bring Cowlitz County's first Veterinary Science program to life by creating a veterinary lab in just two months, the release states.
