Charges filed against Burbank man accused of shooting roommate

The Walla Walla County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has filed formal charges against a Burbank man accused of shooting his roommate.

Robert Pilgrim, 60, is charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon of a household member, a Class A felony.

He is accused of shooting his renter and roommate of eight years during an altercation, Sunday, May 24, according to law enforcement.

Pilgrim was in Walla Walla County Superior Court for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, May 27. He hadn't hired a lawyer by his first appearance on Tuesday, May 26.

His wife hired Walla Walla attorney Nicholas Holce to defend him.

Superior Court Judge Brandon L. Johnson denied Holce's request to lower the $50,000 bail he had set on Tuesday.

Johnson had set a high bail because he said there were too many questions that needed to be answered, including whether the victim and suspect had separate places they could stay.

The victim was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center after the shooting and was then transferred out of town.

Holce said he believed the victim was finding another place to stay and could end up in assisted living when released from the hospital.

However, Johnson said he didn't want to create a situation where the victim returned to a home where the suspect was living.

And because the victim is a tenant of Pilgrim, he has tenant's rights.

So, Johnson kept bail at $50,000.

Johnson said Holce can raise the issue again at Pilgrim's Monday, June 1, arraignment.
