Bike ride through Mount St. Helens blast zone canceled

The Rotary Club of Longview has canceled the 2026 iteration of Tour de Blast, their annual bike ride to Mount St. Helens, previously set for Sunday.

The June 9 cancellation notice states "unexpected challenges" affected the quality of the event.

"Low participation, decreased sponsorship and recent Longview events have made it impossible for us to fund the ride this year," the notice continues.

The up to 66-mile round-trip ride takes cyclists up to a maximum elevation gain of 4,350 feet and into the 1980 blast zone. The event also includes several rest stops along the way.

The club plans to resume on June 19, 2027.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Rotary Club's community service projects in Cowlitz County.
