Evergreen Public Schools, teachers union agree on five-year contract

Evergreen Public Schools teachers and staff have reached an agreement with the district on a new five-year contract that begins in the 2026-27 school year.

The Evergreen school district and Evergreen Education Association, the union that represents teachers and certificated staff, announced the news Thursday ahead of summer break. The contract will be presented to the Evergreen school board for approval at its next meeting July 14. Terms of the agreement will be made public once the board approves it, district spokesperson Craig Birnbach said.

According to a Facebook post from the EEA, 95 percent of attending members voted in favor of passing the new agreement.

The current three-year contract, which was set to expire in August, came after a protracted teachers strike in 2023 that closed school for seven days to start the year. This latest agreement ensures the two sides will avoid another strike.

"I want to thank members of the district and union bargaining teams for your thoughtful work and dedication," Superintendent Christine Moloney said in a press release. "This five-year contract provides stability for our students, families and staff and allows us as a district to focus on supporting student achievement."
