Woman hospitalized after rescued from Columbia River west of Vancouver Waterfront Park

A woman was sent to a hospital Saturday after being rescued by the Vancouver Fire Department from the Columbia River just west of Vancouver Waterfront Park.

Vancouver Fire was dispatched at 3:07 p.m. to a report of a person floating in the river near the railroad bridge, according to a news release from the agency.

Vancouver Fire Boat 1 arrived first to the scene and located a woman who was unresponsive and drifting in dangerous currents near docks and moored river barges, the news release said.

Due to challenging conditions, two Vancouver Fire rescue swimmers were deployed from Fire Boat 1. The swimmers reached the woman and brought her back to Fire Boat 1, where firefighters and paramedics rendered lifesaving medical aid, according to the news release.

The woman was taken to the nearest available dock on the Oregon side of the river, where an ambulance team was standing by to continue medical care.

Authorities did not release further updates on the woman's condition.
