Red flag warning issued for eastern Washington
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for parts of central and eastern Washington and northern Oregon, including the Walla Walla Valley and its surrounding areas.
The red flag warning issued by the office in Pendleton will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 7.
Conditions this afternoon will include winds from 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 miles per hour. Relative humidity will be as low as 15%, according to the National Weather Service.
A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior, officials said.
Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended, officials said.
