Wind, heavy rain headed our way, National Weather Service says
Dig out that raincoat and mail those packages now. It’s going to get wet around here.
The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain for the Puget Sound region from late Thursday into Saturday.
First, there will be wind.
The weather system will announce itself Wednesday night with wind gusts of 20-25 mph, said Courtney Obergfell, a Weather Service meteorologist.
Some rain, maybe one-quarter inch, will fall as well. That’s only a prelude.
Thursday afternoon is when three to four inches will begin to fall, lasting into Saturday morning. Another round of wind, this one with 20-35 mph gusts, will usher in winter in no uncertain terms.
The Weather Service is warning of flooded roads and hazardous driving conditions as creeks, rivers and plugged up culverts overflow. There’s a possibility of landslides as rainfall continues.
Mountain passes will see new snow beginning Wednesday evening, the Weather Service said. On Thursday, snow levels will rise above pass levels.
On Friday, snow levels will slowly drop, possibly reaching Stevens Pass. Snow levels continue to drop on Saturday.
Are you getting your kid a new bike for Christmas? They might just be able to take it for a spin on the 25th.
“We’re a week out so things can change,” Obergfell said. “But right now, we’re not seeing anything significant.”
