Rockslides close 6 miles of state Route 7 near Alder

A 6-mile section of state Route 7 north of Alder is closed Friday evening after heavy rains brought rocks down on the highway, according to the state Department of Transportation.

WSDOT said the road will remain closed until further notice.

The closure is in effect from the SR 7 and Alder Cutoff Road intersection to the SR 7 and SR 161 intersection.

If weather improves, WSDOT geotechnical engineers and maintenance crews will assess the slides on Monday, the department advised.

Heavy rain has fallen across the region since Thursday causing a variety of travel problems.

Drivers can follow a detour via the Alder Cutoff Road and SR 161. Overweight loads can use SR 7 to U.S. 12, Interstate 5 to SR 507 to SR 702 and back to SR 7.
