Forecast calls for a long stretch of rain in the Tacoma area starting Saturday
Friday’s sunshine was a nice reprieve from the typical dreariness of a Western Washington winter. Alas, it was but a brief one.
Rain was forecast to return to the Tacoma area Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported.
The chance of rain was forecast at 90 percent overnight Saturday, with rain also predicted for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Sunday also is forecast to be breezy, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
Monday looks to be a soaker, with an inch or more of rain possible in the Tacoma area, the Weather Service reported.
High temperatures will ease back into the 50s, with overnight lows in the 40s for the lowlands for most of next week. It is expected to be a bit cooler Thursday and Friday, with highs only reaching the upper 40s.
Snow was predicted in both the Olympics and Cascades on Saturday, with snow levels at 3,000 to 3,500 feet and accumulations of a foot or more at higher elevations.
“For reference, Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes will likely see 4-8 inches over a 24 hour period, with Stevens likely experiencing the higher end of snow accumulations,” the Weather Service reported.
