April was colder than normal in Tacoma, Olympia. You can see by how much here

Spring has some catching up to do.

April was cooler than average, and, for most of Puget Sound, wetter.

Based on climate observations from the National Weather Service, April was 3.4 degrees colder in Tacoma compared with the historical average. Olympia’s average daily temperature was 3.9 degrees cooler than normal.

As of Tuesday, Seattle has had below-normal temperatures for 30 of the past 33 days.

April had 24 days in which the average temperature was lower in both Tacoma and Olympia, compared with the historical average for each date.

Olympia had 5.35 inches of precipitation in April. The normal is 3.67.

With 2.98 inches of precipitation, Tacoma was drier than the normal April average of 3.39 inches.

It is not predicted to warm up in May.

“We’re predicting below normal temperatures,” said meteorologist Samantha Borth with the Weather Service in Seattle.

The region also has the potential to have above-average precipitation in the next two weeks, Borth said.

Thursday’s high in Tacoma should be 53, according to the Weather Service. Rain will fall through Saturday and likely on Sunday. Lows will range from 43-46 degrees and highs will range 53-56 degrees all week.

The high temperature reached into the upper 60s in Olympia on Wednesday, but highs won’t even reach 50 for the forseeable future. Lows will sometimes dip into the 30s, but not as low as freezing.
