Heavy rain headed to the Puget Sound region, bringing chance of floods, slides

People who live in low-lying areas could experience minor flooding, and isolated landslides and rockfalls are possible as a wave of rain comes into the Puget Sound region Thursday.

According to a weather alert alert from the National Weather Service, the Puget Sound area is expected to receive heavy rain from Thursday and into Friday morning, followed by little to moderate rain Friday night into Saturday.

Rainwater could pond on roads, which might cause issues for commuters. Also, area rivers are expected to rise, with the Skokomish River possibly reaching flood stage. According to the alert, the threat of river flooding remains low.

Rain is expected to be heaviest in the mountains and foothills, with totals over a half inch an hour possible.

The rain is forecast to continue until Monday, June 13, but is predicted to be lighter starting Saturday.
