Winter weather affecting some school schedules, business openings in Pierce County

Morning temperatures in the teens greeted South Sound residents Friday morning, prompting many local schools to adjust their schedules.

Tacoma School District leaders announced they plan to operate a normal schedule.



Here’s what school districts around Tacoma and Pierce County are doing Friday (note that these announcements are subject to change, so please check with your school district):

  • Bethel School District: Two hour delay
  • Carbonado School District: Two hour delay
  • Clover Park School District: Normal schedule
  • Dieringer School District: Normal schedule
  • Eatonville School District: School closed
  • Franklin Pierce School District: Normal schedule
  • Orting School District: Normal schedule
  • Peninsula School District: Normal schedule
  • Puyallup School District: Normal schedule
  • Steilacoom Historical School District: Normal schedule
  • Sumner-Bonney Lake School District: Two hour delay
  • White River School District: Two hour delay. No A.M. sessions for Preschool, ECEAP, or Early Kindergarten

In addition, Northwest Trek Wildlife Park in Eatonville will be closed on Jan. 12 and 13 due to the weather inclement. Weather permitting, the park will reopen on Jan. 14 and be open on Jan. 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, according to a news release.
