Possible freezing rain anticipated in Pierce and Thurston counties on Tuesday

Forecasters anticipate freezing rain in the interior lowlands of the Puget Sound, including Pierce and Thurston counties.

The National Weather Service in Seattle says that the freezing rain is expected to begin Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Interstate 5 and US 101 are some of the major highways affected.

The NWS also issued a winter storm warning for the Cascade mountains and valleys throughout the Western Washington region, including Pierce County. This is in effect from 4 p.m. on Tuesday to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Those in the Lakewood area can expect rain and a mix of snow Tuesday. On Tuesday night, the NWS says there will be freezing rain until 1 a.m.

There will mostly be rain throughout the day in the Puyallup and Spanaway areas on Tuesday. At night, there will be freezing rain until midnight, the NWS says.

There is a slight chance of rain and snow between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Tacoma. The rest of the night will be normal rain, the NWS says.

In Thurston County, it will rain mostly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Freezing rain will hit the area Tuesday night until after 11, the NWS says.
