Will Tacoma enjoy a white Christmas this year? Here is the Farmers’ Almanac forecast

If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, Tacoma, sadly your dreams will likely not become a reality this winter.

The Farmers’ Almanac Christmas forecast has arrived for Dec. 24 to Dec. 31, and it looks like Washington is one of the several states that won’t be experiencing a white Christmas. Much of the country can expect a dry and cold Christmas, except for states in the northeast that will likely have wet snow.

When was the last time Tacoma had a white Christmas?

The National Weather Service defines a white Christmas as having at least one inch of snow on the ground.

The last time Tacoma had an official white Christmas was in 2017 when it received between 1 to 2 inches of snow, said Dustin Guy, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service station in Seattle in an interview.

Snow began to fall that year on Christmas Eve, and continued on through Christmas Day when early morning temperatures in Tacoma were 31 degrees and had a high of 35 degrees, Guy said.

What is Tacoma’s Christmas weather forecast?

The Farmers’ Almanac groups Washington in the Northwest region alongside Oregon and Idaho.

The Almanac predicts that on Dec. 25, the weather will be dry and cold with fair skies, which means the Evergreen state will not have a white Christmas.

The Farmers’ Almanac also predicts that weather will be rainy, snowy and cloudy leading up to the week of Christmas, but will slowly improve by Christmas Day.

The Climate Prediction Center’s long-range forecast for the next two weeks shows that Washington is expected to have above-average temperatures and above-normal chances of precipitation. That means that the chance of a white Christmas is very unlikely for western Washingtonians.

“Anyone hoping for a white Christmas will be disappointed because it doesn’t look like the weather will turn that way,” Guy said.
