Forecasters: Brace for windy weather tonight in western WA, rain through the weekend
A Pacific storm moving through the state is forecast to bring wind and rain to western Washington starting Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Tacoma will see gusts of up to 40 to 45 miles per hour and is included in a wind advisory across Western Washington through early Wednesday morning, according to a Weather Service briefing last updated at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. These “breezy winds” will peak overnight.
Light rain is forecast to linger at least into the weekend in the South Puget Sound lowlands, which includes Tacoma, Puyallup, Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Olympia. The area might see more windy weather on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Puget Sound Energy is prepared for potential power outages in its service area, the utility posted on X at 5:10 p.m. Storm-safety tips and a notice about “damaging winds” in the forecast starting Tuesday night are available on its website. The utility also posts outages on a map along with estimated restoration times.
“Our crews are ready to deploy with assignments when outages occur, as soon as it’s safe to to do so,” the post says. “As we prepare for storm conditions, we encourage customers to do the same.”
Tacoma Public Utilities also advised people to prepare for the wind advisory in a post on X at 4 p.m. Customers can report outages and get updates on restoration efforts at MyTPU.org/OutageMap and get safety tips on their website.
