Live updates: Schools, parks continue to be affected by freezing weather in Pierce County

Winter weather is affecting some local schools for a second day Tuesday.

There’s a chance of snow showers and rain in the morning in the Tacoma area, according to the National Weather Service. It will be partly sunny with highs near 40 degrees.

In the afternoon, it will mostly be cloudy with a chance of rain and snow showers into the evening. There is also a chance of snow after midnight with lows in the 20s to lower 30s in Tacoma.

School closures/delays

Here’s what school districts around Tacoma and Pierce County are doing Tuesday (note that these announcements are subject to change, so please check with your school district):

• Puyallup School District: Two-hour delay. No preschool, no out-of-district transportation.
• UW Tacoma: Opening at 10 a.m.
• Franklin Pierce School District: Two-hour delay. No preschool, no out-of-district transportation.
• Orting School District: Two-hour delay. No A.M. preschool. No out-of district transportation.
• Carbonado School District: Two-hour delay.
• Peninsula School District: Two-hour delay, no out-of-district transportation. All buses will arrive two hours later than regularly scheduled. Half-day preschool is canceled.
• Pacific Lutheran University: Two-hour delay.
• Dieringer School District: Two-hour delay. No A.M. preschool.
• Emerald Learning Center in Tacoma: Two-hour late start.
• Fife School District: Two-hour delay. No ECAEP. Out-of-district transportation delayed.
• Tacoma School District: Two-hour delay. No out-of-district transportation. Normal bus routes. Afternoon preschool classes continue on normal schedules. Full day preschool classes will start two hours late. Elementary band and orchestra are canceled. Afternoon activities continue as normal.
• Sumner-Bonney Lake School District: Two-hour delay. No preschool. Right At School before-school childcare and birth to 5 childcare 2 hours late. No out-of-district transportation. No transportation to the Elhi Hill High School Program or the Pierce County Skills Center. Before-school activities, clubs and extra-curricular events are canceled.
• Bethel School District: Two-hour delay. AM/PM buses on snow routes. Right At School and the Bethel Acceleration Academy will also be running two hours late. There will be no half-day preschool, no late start or early release programs, no out-of-district transportation, no Challenge program, no Transition Lab program, and no transportation for Challenger Middle or Challenger High School. Morning classes at the Pierce County Skills Center are also canceled.
• White River School District: Two-hour delay. AM/PM buses on snow routes. No AM perschool. No out-of-district transportation.

Park closures

Meadow Park Golf Course – The Championship 18 & Williams Nine will be closed Tuesday. The driving range, golf shop and restaurant will remain open for normal business hours, according to Parks Tacoma on their website.

Center at Norpoint, Eastside Community Center, People’s Center and STAR Center will be opening at 8 a.m.
