Strong winds, possible thunderstorms in the forecast for Pierce County this evening

The National Weather Service is forecasting high winds Monday evening into Tuesday morning, with the potential for downed trees and power outages in the Pierce County area.

Winds will peak between 7 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday, with strong south to southwest winds, NWS reported. Gusts are expected to range from 45 to 60 mph.

There also is a chance of thunderstorms across Western Washington into Tuesday evening. Those storms could bring lightning and heavy rain to some areas, NWS reported.

Snow levels will range from 3000-4000 feet, with heavier snow over the Cascade passes.
