Forecasters anticipate possible thunderstorms in Tacoma, around Puget Sound Wednesday

Tacoma residents should brace for possible thunderstorms and rain Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say there is a marginal risk for possible isolated severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. The probability for severe thunderstorms is 5 to 14 percent, stretching from Mount Vernon down past Paradise, the NWS wrote in its forecast.

There is a 30 to 50 percent chance for the thunderstorms to happen across Western Washington, the forecast says.

Isolated thunderstorms produce lightning, winds, small hail and short periods of heavy rain, which could impact outdoor activities.

The forecast says rain and showers along with a possible thunderstorm could happen after 11 a.m. in Tacoma. The high will be near 69 degrees.

Rain and a possible thunderstorm also could happen before 11 p.m., then more rain after. The low is forecast to be 49 degrees. Winds gusts could be as high as 23 miles per hour.
