Evacuations at multiple Puyallup apartment complexes and elsewhere in Pierce Co.

Update at 7:30 p.m. Thursday: All of the roughly 200 residents at the Crossroads at Meridian apartments have been evacuated, Puyallup spokesperson Eric Johnson said via text message. He also said residents at two larger apartment complexes in the city should be prepared to leave. There’s a Level 1 (get ready) notice in effect for the River Trail apartments at 1617 E. Main Ave. and a Level 2 (get set) notice for the Riverside Park Apartments 1 and 2, at 3017 E. Main Ave. the city posted on social media.

Those complexes are larger than Crossroads, Johnson said.

“We don’t have an accurate number, but we can reasonably say there are several hundred folks at those apartments,” he wrote.

Update, 4:10 p.m.: Residents of the Crossroads at Meridian apartment complex on 1027 N. Meridian must evacuate after a Level 3 evacuation notice was issued due to flooding from the Puyallup River, according to the police department.

Police are on the scene assisting residents, and anyone who lives at the complex can call the department’s call center at 253-864-4170.

In Orting, Level 2 evacuation notices were lifted for:

  • High Cedars Golf Course community
  • Leach Road loop including 150th Avenue East, 188th Street East, 184th Street East, 176th Street East, 168th Street East
  • 177th Street East and Patterson Road East, off SR 162/Pioneer Way East

Neighborhoods within the City of Orting and 116th Street East between 151st Court East and Dan & Bill’s RV Park are still under evacuation notices, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue on Facebook.

Update, 2:30 p.m.: The Sumner Police Department issued a Level 3 evacuation notice for Rainier Manor on Thursday afternoon, according to a department Facebook post.

Residents of Rainier Manor Mobile Home Park should evacuate immediately, the post read. The YMCA is available as a day use shelter, and law enforcement are en route to knock on doors and help with evacuation.

There are several leaks in the levee and authorities do not know how long it will take to get sand bags to the location, a previous post read. They also are uncertain if the levee will hold where the leaks are.

Evacuations from South Prairie, road closures and vehicle accidents forced town traffic to gridlock, according to the post.

Pierce County also has issued a Level 3 evacuation alert for people in the Bowman Hilton RV Park.
