The NWS Portland OR issued a report at 8:56 p.m. on Thursday for strong thunderstorms until 9:45 p.m. for Central Columbia River Gorge - SR 14 and South Washington Cascades.
Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 40 mph.
"At 8:56 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Hood River, moving west at 15 mph," says the NWS. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects."
Locations impacted by the alert include Hood River, Parkdale, Odell, Dee, Viento State Park, Underwood, Cook and Home Valley. This includes the following highways: Interstate 84 between mile markers 52 and 68. State Highway 35 between mile markers 74 and 102.
The NWS states, "If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle."
This alert is in effect until 9:45 p.m.
