Will Tacoma get snow Friday? According to NWS, there might be a chance.

Aside from a few flurries, the South Sound has yet to have a snow day this winter season.

But according to the National Weather Service Seattle, that might change Friday morning.

Cool air and lower mountain snow levels Friday morning brings a potential wintry mix in the lowlands, and even the chance of snow dusting the higher foothills, the NWS shared in a weather briefing.

While the organization has “moderate-high confidence” for seeing snow in Puget Sound, the organization has “less confidence” for snow in the Olympic Peninsula due to slightly warmer temperatures.

Whether the snow actually accumulates depends on local surface conditions and temperatures. If the snow does accumulate, most areas should see up to 2 inches of snowfall, especially on grass.

There’s even the unlikely chance that higher snowfall amounts of up to 4 inches could hit south of King County, where precipitation will be heaviest, the NWS shared.

Ground and near-surface temperatures are likely to be above freezing, resulting in variable surface accumulation.

The potential for snow will be the highest between 2:00 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Going into the weekend, both Saturday and Sunday have chances of rain and snow in the morning, but little accumulation is expected, if any.

The heavy precipitation also means that rivers will rise, causing an increased potential for flooding in the lowland basins, the NWS shared.

And if you plan to cross the Cascade passes this weekend, proceed with caution.

Heavy mountain snow is expected to hit the ranges, causing difficult travel conditions and the potential for road closures.
